Mountain WX is weatherapp designed to take local, private weather station data and make it available online to the operators of a mountain resort.
Currently the data arrives from the weather station in Excel spreadsheet format and is transcribed on a whiteboard.
Problem: Current method of data recording makes it difficult for those signing into the online meeting to see what is on the weather board.
Mountain WX solves the issue of having to fill in a whiteboard with the weather information and brings the data on to the guides individual devices. With compartmentalised screens, it makes it easier to find the data one is looking for.
Past trends, the unique part of this app, plots the recorded weather in the past to help predict snow quality and stability for skiing.
Notes on UI: The information is broken down into packets: Flight Forecast, Valley Weather conditions (Blue River), Tree Line weather (Mount St. Anne) and Alpine or Upper Level weather. The maps function gives an overview of the surrounding areas. Past trends allow the forecasters to anticipate snow conditions for skiing.
A main menu directs to the individual sheets. They can also be accessed through a swiping motion.
Notes on UX: Through personal experience and examining the typical user, the information should be delivered in the most utilitarian way possible. Animations should be unobtrusive.
There will be a certain level of expertise required to make sense of the app, making this a professional-level weather app.
